Tourism
Tourism is an immensely important industry for the County. Tourism is centred around the coastal belt, which 400 000 foreign and domestic tourists visited in the year before the war, accounting for 3 500 000 overnight stays in a total of 50 000 beds, of which 8000 were in hotels, 18 000 were in camps, and 19 000 were in private accommodations.
Agriculture and Fishing
Agriculture in the ŠKC could experience immense growth in the production of cultures specific to the Mediterranean, namely winter and early fruits and vegetables, poultry farming, milk production and cattle production. In 2003, a total of 172 people were employed in the agriculture sector of the County.
Macroeconomic Trends
The economic structure of the County in the period leading up to the Homeland War mostly consisted of industry, commerce, shipping and transportation, tourism and the service industry. As a percentage of the total economic picture of the County in 1989, industry held 56.8%, commerce 14.7%, construction 6.3%, tourism and the service industry 5.9%, transportation and shipping 5.2%.
Territory and Demographic Trends
The main economic, cultural and administrative centre of the Šibensko-Kninska County (ŠKC), whose area is 2 939.73 square kilometres, is Šibenik. The County is 122 km long, and shares international borders with Italy and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1991, the population was 152 000 people, who live in 193 settlements, organised into 5 cities and 13 townships.
