Tourism is one of the most important economic activities and sources of employment in the County. Statistically, the PGC is one of the two strongest tourism counties in Croatia, accounting for 23% of all tourist visits to the country. During the first 9 months of 2004, 1 693 461 tourists visited the PGC, an increase of 1% from the previous year.
For the same period, 8 783 216 overnight stays were recorded, an increase of 2% from the previous year. There was also a 2% increase in foreign tourists from the previous year. Kvarner (the coastal region of the PGC) has a capacity of 183 653 beds year-round, which makes up 21% of Croatia’s accommodation capacity. Tourism accounts for approximately 5.6% of the County’s total revenue.
